Nan Cristy (Kreamer)

Judy married and later divorced Tom Potter and she lived in Severna Park, MD, just outside of Annapolis. She opened a candy store, "Chocolates from the Heart" which became her passion. She always had a smile and welcomed her customers very graciously. She especially loved all the children who would come in just to see her. Since I live in Baltimore, I spent many weekends with her, helped at the store, and she enjoyed many more times. She often talked about our years in Pleasantville and she was looking forward to our next reunion.

In the fall of 1994 she started feeling strange. She had a few instances of falls and became weak. Christmas was her busy season and she knew she had to work hard during the holiday season. Her father came and stayed with her to help her at the store.

She collapsed at the store and we took her to the hospital. After several tests they sent her to Johns Hopkins hospital for further evaluation. There they confirmed that she had Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD), which is a degenerative neurological disorder (brain disease) that is very rare, incurable, and invariably fatal. This is also known as "mad cow" disease. I was there with her family when the doctors told us their prognosis. We had no idea how she would have contracted such a disease since she did not even eat meat. Unfortunately, there is no cure.

She fell into a coma in early January and passed away in February 1995. I was there with her father, Joe, sister, Patricia and John Watkins, brothers Steven and Kevin along with many, many friends. She is sorely missed by all.
